Born on January 6, 1960 cookbook author Nigella Lawson has been described, at times, as “flirtatious”, “stunningly beautiful,” and “formidably charismatic.” Sexy adjectives aside, Nigella Lawson has proven she is more than just a pretty face by becoming a preeminent cookbook author and TV personality. In 1988, Nigella Lawson wrote the first of her bestselling cookbooks, How to Eat. A follow-up cookbook of delicious Nigella Lawson recipes, How to Be a Domestic Goddess, won her the British Book Award for Author of the Year. To date her bestselling cookbooks have sold more than five million copies worldwide.
Lawson’s career took another step up in 2000 when she began hosting her first cooking show in England, Nigella Bites. The 2006 Food Network show, Nigella Feasts, allowed the rest of the world to taste the Nigella Lawson recipes that made her famous. Neither a trained chef nor cook, she has assumed a distinctly relaxed approach to her cooking. Nigella emphasizes that she cooks for her own pleasure and finds cooking to be a therapeutic experience, stating, "I think cooking should be about fun and family. ...I think part of my appeal is that my approach to cooking is really relaxed and not rigid. There are no rules in my kitchen.”
In 1992, Nigella married the journalist and broadcaster John Diamond. John was diagnosed with throat cancer in 1997 and passed away in 2001. They had two children together, Cosima and Bruno. Nigella remarried in 2003 and lives in London with husband, Charles Saatchi, and her children.
